Live your dream

Hi everyone,

Happy Monday! This week's challenge at Simon Says Stamp and Show is to use a sentiment. I chose the sentiment "Don't dream your life, live your dream". When I first read this sentiment, it made me think. Because I'm a bit of a dreamer, maybe not necessarily a dreamer, actually more a thinker. I gotta stop thinking/dreaming as much and start living more. I'm working on that as we speak.

The Reflections Stamping technique is so cool. If you want to know what I'm talking about click here for watching the video on this technique.
The previous times, I've used background stamps, but this time I chose an image stamp, the hot air balloon stamp! Because I've done this technique only on tags before, I didn't realize I had to stamp it upside down when you're working with a card! Also, I didn't get a clean reflection the first time. So I stuck an extra piece of cardstock between the embossing sandwich and that worked perfectly.

Then I was time to play with colors! Before I did that, I made a mask out of an old transparency sheet for stamps and stamped on it with Archival Ink Jet Black. Let it dry for a minute or two and then cut it out nice and clean, because I needed the positive and the negative part. First I colored the background using the positive mask. Then I colored the hot air balloon using the negative.

The sentiment is made on the computer and it is a FREE font! Click here to download font if you're interested!

To join in all you need to do is make a project that fits this weeks challenge and you can be the winner of the $50 gift voucher that our amazing sponsor Simon Says Stamp offers. This prize will go to a random entry. So go over to the Stamp and Show Challenge blog, let the DT members inspire you and join in the fun!

Thank you for stopping by! Love to see you next time!

CoCC #14

Hi everyone,

What great fun I'm having with the Compendium of Curiosities Challenge. This week we have to open the book at page 39 for the Guilded Kraft Glassine technique. I think this is such a cool technique, this looks like thin metal. And this week it's sponsered by The Funkie Junkie Boutique!
That Kraft Glassine is really amazing stuff! Perfect for making embellishments. And therefor I've decided to make flowers out of it. To prevent it becomes one big mess, I inked the glassine first before cutting!

Ooh lala Moulin Rouge

Hi everyone,

Happy Monday! I'm going to Paris within a few weeks and I'm definitely in Paris mode. All I can think of is Paris, Paris and also Paris. While planning my trip I got inspired by the Moulin Rouge. I think it's a beautiful place. And I thought it really fits for this weeks challenge "Hey girl" over at Simon Says Stamp and Show!

I had some scrap metallic gift wrapping laying around that I just wanted to use for this project. I've made a big mess by coloring it with jet black Archival ink. By accident I discovered that while the ink is still wet you can easily make cool patterns with you fingernails, or maybe something with a sharp point. You need to heat set it or, leave it to dry for a minute. Odd that it isn't black but more anthracite. But I'm happy with the anthracite color. The metalic wrap stays a bit sticky, so you may want to seal it. I had so much fun dressing up Tim Holtz' dress form Moulin Rouge style!

To give the background a deep rich color I've used two kinds of red Barn Door and Fired Brick Distress ink and to finish the edges I've used Black Soot Distress ink.

CoCC 2 #13

Hi everyone,

It's time for the Compendium of Curiosities 2 Challenge! This time it's one of my favorites, the Spritz and Flick technique! I find this technique really cool. This is the first Tim Holtz' technique I've ever tried. And it's a pretty easy one. You need to know how you should do the flick motion, once you got that it's super easy! How this flicking should be done exactly, can be found in the CoC2 book on page 42. It's absolutely wonderful that this week is sponsored by Simon Says Stamp!

The round labels are custom made shells (from Hong Kong) that I've given metal look! I've learned this technique only recently by a workshop of Andy Skinner! Super cool to do and not difficult at all.

Love the twenties headbands

Hi everyone,

Today I only have time for a short post, because it's already way past my bedtime! I wanted to make something different.  And the Dutch Card Lovers en Our Creative Corner challenges were perfect for that. For DCL I had to make a hexicon card and OCC had an inspiration picture with the colors pink, navy and a color of your choice. Mine is Kraft. The card is inspired by the headbands of the twenties with a feather on it. I think they're just gorgeous!

No rules, lets play!

Hi everyone,

Happy Monday! I am so happy to show the first card I made as a DT member of Simon Says Stamp and Show! Someone pinch me now! LOL! What a great way to start this adventure without any rules! Because this week it's anything goes. I made this birthday card for my colleague Marcel. He is currently on vacation, so I'll give him the card when he gets back.

I had a lunch bag laying around and I thought it was perfect to use for this challenge. I knew immediately that I wanted to mix things up. I wanted to make a funky fresh steampunk card.
On the flap I've used the On the Edge Steampunk die, and I've given it a bright yellow color. The letters I've cut out with my Silhouette Cameo, stamped them with Check plate stamp and outlined them with a white gel pen.

The background is stamped with Peacock Feathers and I randomly put some pieces of tissue tape. Of course I had to use my favorite zigzag punch! And for the steampunk feel I added some sprocket gears.

Recently I got the Diamond Plate & Riveted Metal embossing folders and this was the perfect time to use them! It was so much fun to use them with bright colors! I also had the chance to use my new Remnants Stamp set. It's such a gorgeous stamp set! Love it!! Need to use it more! For the middle part I used soft colors so I could write on it.

I think it's super cool to see steampunk in these bright colors. It's such a different look and I love it!
Can you imagine how it would look if it was all in brown tones with black?

Dare to be different

Hi everyone,

Today I found some time to make the July tag for the 12 tags of 2012. Unfortunately I don't have compressed air at my disposal and I seriously don't know where I could get some. But luckily I saw that others used a straw instead to create a kind of simular effect. And a straw I do have!

I'm also joining in the fun at Frilly and Funkie and when I saw that the challenge was altered metal, I knew that I wanted to use some foil tape. This time I've used a ATC instead of a tag.

First I stuck the foil tape on a piece of cardstock and then embossed it. Then it was time for some fun with the alcohol ink and straw. I think for this kind of surface it is better to use a straw instead of the compressed air. Especially on such a small area. I colored the ribbon with the alcohol inks to make it very bright. It really blends well together. Hope it isn't a fire hazard or anything...

Sweet configurations

Hi everyone,

Today it's time for Compendium of Curiosities 2 Challenge! This time it's a double one and therefore lasts 2 weeks. And that's not all, we can win a awesome prize that Mario's has donated for this challenge!! And that challenge is Configurations part 1 and 2, that's on page 33 and 34 of Compendium of Curiosities 2.

I've never worked with Configurations before. That's why I bought the smallest one. And that was a smart decision because I hardly have stuff  that I can put into it. With some persistence I've managed to decorate these little boxes. And I think it turned out great!

If you are like me and you let your cutting machine do all the work if it's possible, here is SVG file to make your life just a bit easier :). Well, it did mine. Make sure it's 10.5 inch wide and keep it ratio.

Feel better soon!

Hi everyone,

First of all I want to wish my friends from America a very happy 4th of July! That it may be a great party today/tonight.

Today I've made a get well card for a dear friend of mine. It had to become a happy card, because I want to cheer her up. The first photo's I took where way to dark, so I went outside and made some new ones. The colors still aren't close, but these ones were a bit better...

I've cut out strips of paper to create a sort of template with my Silhouette Cameo. By creating a template, it's very easy to get every strip in place. I've pasted the template on a scrap piece of paper and colored it in with different colors of distress ink and then pasted it on the card. The small drops I made with Dylusions. Open the bottle by screwing the spray cap off and tapping it on the side so that it mades some splashes.

With this card, I participate with:

Sweet tooth

Hi everyone,

After sharing the exciting news yesterday, it's now time to share a card. But first I want to thank you for your lovely comments and your gratulations. I really appreciate it! And a warm welcome to my new followers! Take a look around and make yourself at home!

Today I was in the mood for making something cute and girly. It's been a while since I've done cutesy! This weeks challenges of DCL and OCC are perfect for it.
OCC has the challenge to use soming with baking. When I think of baking, I think of cupcakes! With cupcakes you can go all out, and so I really enjoy making them. Especially I love to decorate them.

This button cupcake was a bit tricky because I had only a few pink buttons left, so I had to organize them so they all should fit. I had planned all  them out, but I messed them up when I had to glue on the icing of the cupcake! Grrr... But after a bit of shuffling and re-glueing here and there, I managed to put them all back in place.
DCL has a sketch this week. So I could make it as cutesy as I want. Just what I needed :)!

Thank you for stopping by! Love to see you next time!

Hugs,
Sandra
