Tea Time Box with video tutorial

Hi everyone,

It's Monday and that means a new Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge! This week it's all about "Get in Shape". Make a dimensional project, or a shaped card. Or if you are inspired by the theme getting in shape physically, that's okay too.

I was making cards a lot lately that a shape theme was a real challenge for me. But I'm glad I came up with the idea of ​​making a tea box out of foamboard . I've already made two for myself, a larger one for my home and a little one for work, click here for that blog post. This one is for a friend of mine. She saw it, and wanted one too.

 

First I figured out the size I wanted and cut it out of 5 mm thick foamboard. The dimensions of the box are 13 x 7 x 7 cm. The pieces I painted with Dylusions Paint Vibrant Turquoise. While I was painting, I saw I forgotten to cut out of the lid. Each piece has got two coats of paint. Normally Dylusion Paint is very liquid, but mine has became a little thicker, and that had a big impact on the drying time.

 

The next step was to create texture with the Simon Says Stamp Circular Lace stencil and black colored Texture Paste. I partially covered up the lid. I did this for both the top and bottom of the lid. The front and back of the box I have completely covered with Texture Paste and the Simon Says Stamp Circular Lace stencil. Between each use of the stencil I cleaned the stencil, else it would have been a big mess. I also needed a lot of patience for the Texture Paste could dry. After it was dry I started to assemble the box. For assembling  I used Tacky Glue and 18 mm pins. The head pins provide extra sturdiness, so that you don't have to wait till the glue is dry. As an alternative, you can also work with a glue gun. I'm not so great with that at all, and so I have found this method.

 

In order to give the Texture Paste a little more extra, I've applied Metallique Wax Bronze Age on top of it with my fingers. This gives it a more luxurious look and as if it is some older metal. Washi tape shouldn't be missing and along with the Alphabet Thinlits and a jute bow, so it looks like the first generation. The real challenge was the hinges and the lock. I used old ones that are very similar to those of a cigar box. The screws I rolled in Tacky Glue because foamboard is not really screwable material and the glue makes sure that they will stay in place.

Distress it card with video tutorial

Hi everyone,

It's Monday and that means a new Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge! This week it's all about "Distress it".

This is a challenge that's right up my alley. I love distressing and was thinking of grunging it up right away. Of course, I'm also a big fan of the Distress products and especially the inks and oxides. First I started creating the background on Heavystock with Distress Ink (Evergreen Bough, Peacock Feathers, Ground Espresso) and Distress Oxide (Broken China, Cracked Pistachio and Walnut Stain). I've applied a lot of layers and dried it in between each layer with the heat tool. To create even more depth and add more color I've applied some Distress Ink and Distress Oxide with a Blending Tool.

 
When I think of Grunge I think about Gears, so I've used one of the Gadget Gears 2 (thanks Barbara!) And some of the Gearhead set (thanks Cathie!). The Gadget Gear 2 I sanded (was die cut out of copper metallic cardstock) and after that I applied some Distress Ground Espresso and Metallique Wax Bronze Age. On the Gearhead Gears I first applied some Grit-Paste and then painted  it black. After the paint was dry I used different wax (Bronze Age, Aged Brass, Old Silver and Vintage Silk) to make the texture of the Grit-Paste stand out and give it the old metal look.

Red, white and blue masculine card with video tutorial

Hi everyone,

It's Monday and that means a new Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge! This week it's all about "Red, white and/or blue".



Tomorrow is the 4th of July, one of America's biggest holidays. Everyone who celebrates it, I wish you an amazing day! For this card I've used all 3 colors. I started with Distress Oxide Fired Brick and Distress Ink Barn Door. I've applied multiple layers and using both Oxide and the Regular Distress so I get more contrast. Then I did the same with Distress Oxide Faded Jeans and the Regular Distress Ink Faded Jeans.
 

With the Read to Me stamp and Stars stencil I've created more depth in the background. Along with Dylusions Spray Black Marble I added some splatters. The Dapper stamp set I've used as my focal point. Such a fabulous stamp, don't you think? I finished it with the Magnolia Jane stamp set to create a sentiment.
 

For the embellishments, of course, I've used the Droplets, I can hardly do without those anymore. And I've used a new tool, the Tag Press. With Distress Oxide Faded Jeans and the star of the Magnolia Jane stamp set, I've made a tag press ring as fun piece. Unfortunately, I didn't film the part I've made the little Dimensional Star. Is a fiddly work to fold and glued it together, but it looks fantastic all done, and adds lots of dimension and interest to the card.

Happy Summer Stencil card with video tutorial

Hi everyone,

It's Monday and that means a new Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge! This week it's all about "Stencil it".



It's finally summer and to celebrate that I made a happy summer card. First, I made an umbre effect  with Worn Lipstick, Spiced Marmalade and Fossilized Amber Distress Oxide. Then I made some interest with the same colors and order using a stencil . What's strange is that the effect fades over time. If you look at the background now, the effect is almost faded away. No idea what caused it.

 

With VersaMark I've stamped the Joyful Garden stamp and applied it with black embossing powder and heated it. I've colored it with Oxide Inks and Reinkers. The Peeled Paint dries very lightly into a grayish tint, not sure why that happens. The center of the flowers I've given some color and dimension with enamels (Thanks Anita!). After everything was dry, I've added more interest with some stencils and Distress Oxide.

Let's Take a Vacation art journal with video tutorial

Hi everyone,

It's Monday and that means a new Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge! This week it's all about "Let's Take a Vacation".

As you probably know, I love city trips. Therefor, I've made a city trip inspired art journal spread. It turned out a bit on the dark side, so it's city trip at nightfall I started to cover the background with Terminology Tissue Wrap. After that I've applied different colors of  Infusions with Mod Podge mixedwith water. But I found that the Tissue Wrap was too over powering, so I applied a layer of Snowcap paint. Then I've re-appled with Mod Podge different Infusions to bring back the color.

 

Of course, bricks need to be in a city trip theme. So I used a Bricks stencil with Grit-Paste. Perfect for giving me some stone texture. Then added different colors of Infusions to blend them into the background. The Cityscape Skyline die can't be missing and so is a Globe. I first painted it all black and then painted the green parts of the world. Because there are plenty critters living in the city also, I've used the Bird Branch die and colored it with different colors of Distress Oxide.
