Darkroom Door Buttons card with video tutorial

http://www.simonsaysstampblog.com/mondaychallenge/

Hi everyone,

It's Monday and that means a new Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge! This week it's all about making your own background. We're using Darkroom Door products, if you have them we'd love to see them used in your project, if not, that's okay too. We're looking forward to see your gorgeous background projects.

For this challenge I made a background with the Buttons stamp from Darkroom Door. When I saw the stamp, I thought it was so awesome! It's a background stamp and I wanted to use it for background. I stamped with Archival Ink Jet Black, and it's quite a busy and bold background, but also very cool.

With Prima Marketing Watercolor pencils I colored a few of the buttons. The pencils are very subtle and that's exactly what I wanted, because the stamp was already intense enough. For some reason it seemed as if the ink reacted with water, but it shouldn't because it's a waterproof ink. Probably the ink wasn't completely dry yet.

I'm now in a phase where I use black aquarelle pencil everywhere to apply shadow effects, and with a little White Gelly Roll Pen as accents. Because the theme, I used my sewing machine and sew around the edges. Love that look, but it's such a hassle to get out the machine that I hardly do it.

See below for the video of the entire process. Unfortunately, I occasionally was out of frame. Learning moments...

Love how you used that button stamp, Sandra! It is the perfect background for your dressmaker's form!

How in the world do you come up with all of these ideas. The background is on the busy side but you have really managed to tone it down with the dress from and word. The tan color draws the eye down while the dark form holds it down! Very creative!

I adore notions and buttons and all things sewing-related (even though I can't really sew to save my life)! This brought such a wonderful nostalgic feeling to me of growing up at the feet of my mother and grandma who ARE seamstresses. Thanks for the inspiring trip down memory lane!
