12 tags of 2016 - April

Hi everyone,

It's time for a new 12 tags of 2016! It's April's turn. Tim has again made an amazing tag using two techniques of previous years. The faux mosaic technique of March 2012 and the paint resist from November 2015.

It's always nice to be challenged to try techniques that I don't use often. Tim has made a perfect combo. I'm not really a mosaic fan, but it can be very beautiful. I think it's especially beautiful when the colors in the mosaic are the same color. It was quite fun to do this technique once again.

For my mosaic piece I chose the Eiffel Tower. It's such a beautiful icon where I get many of my industrial inspiration from. I've nevertheless decided not to go for the industrial look of the Eiffel Tower, but rather with a soft-colored look, because the background is also already very dark, and I was in the mood for a little color.

Touches of Metallic Art Journal Spread with video tutorial

http://www.simonsaysstampblog.com/mondaychallenge/

Hi everyone,

It's Monday and that means a new Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge! This week it's all about Show us your metal. Simply include a metallic element somewhere on your project!

For this challenge I wasn't inspired by the physical metal, but by the metallic shimmer of metal. So many product have a metallic shimmer, such as paint, ink, sprays, gelatos and foil. For my art journal spread I chose  the metallic shimmer of Opal Magic Alchemy Paint along with Prima Rub On Foil.

As my first layer I used the Half Tones & Rings stamp set from Tim Holtz. What an amazing set is that! When I had it in my hands for the first time, it was inked up within a few minutes to make this art journal spread. It's perfect for making distressed looking backgrounds. The Opal Magic paint has the unique property that when it's applied to a dark surface it has a different color than on a light one. That's why I applied it over my stamped background. I didn't cover it completely, so you can see how this paint acts. So cool to see the magic!

Washi Tape is often the way I build up my projects. It's fabulous to add contrast and interest in a simple way, and from there to add layers around it. I used the Offset Dots stamp around the washi tape. And the Peacock Feathers Distress Crayon the divine it some more, but used also a Aquarelle Pencil and Pitt Artist pen.

Last week Simon Says Stamp has released a new release, called My Favorite, and I've used the Painted Faith die from it. But there are also released a lot of new Memory Box dies, and from that release I used the Butterfly Ensemble.

Butterfly Beauty card with video tutorial

http://www.simonsaysstampblog.com/mondaychallenge/

Hi everyone,

It's Monday and that means a new Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge! This week it's all about Butterfly Beauty.  Simply include a butterfly somewhere on your project!

Butterflies are the most beautiful insects in my opion, they are really gorgeous, fluttering merrily through the air and the wings have amazingcolors. I'm always happy when I see butterflies. The most beautiful butterfly stamp that I have is the butterfly from Perspective stamp set by Tim Holtz. It's a big and bold stamp that I've used as a starting point for my card.

After I stamp it, I stamped the butterfly on some masking sticky tape, cut it out, and placed it over the stamped image. With Texture Paste that I colored with paint Vibrant Turquiose and Diamond Circles stencil I applied some texture around the butterfly. Immediately after applying, I've removed the mask. If the Texture Paste begins to dry, the mask won't come off nicely.

While the Texture Paste was drying, I once again stamped the butterfly on masking sticky tape and cut it out. The first one was no longer usable. By then the Texture Paste was dry and I've applied the mask again to do some random stamping and make some splashes.

The coloring I've done with Peacock Feathers and Cracked Pistachio Distress Markers and a water brush. What a beautiful combination those two colors give. I've made an envelop to match the card too.

For the whole process of making this card see the video below.

April Flowers card with video tutorial

http://www.simonsaysstampblog.com/mondaychallenge/

Hi everyone,

It's Monday and that means a new Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge! This week it's all about April Showers Bring May Flowers.

Finally the beginning of spring is showing here in the Netherlands. Some of the trees are blossoming, and some spring flowers are popping up. Spring is my favorite season, because nature starts blooming and the temperature goes up so we can go outside more. Can't wait till it's in full swing!

The new Wildflower stamps from Tim Holtz are so cool and perfect for this challenge. I've stamped them with my MISTI because with some solid stamps I often don't get a good impression of it. And with the MISTI I can stamp in exactly the same place as many times as necesarry. With Brilliant Galaxy Gold I stamped  with a little offset over the same stamps. Love that effect!

I don't know why, but the color yellow is reminds me of spring. Probably because of Easter and the sun I guess. That's why I've sprayed with Lemon Zest Dylusions Spray over the Plastic Canvas stencil to give me some vibrant yellow. Yellow with black is such an amazing color combination!

For the whole process from beginning to end, watch the video below!

Resist it art journal spread with video tutorial

http://www.simonsaysstampblog.com/mondaychallenge/

Hi everyone,

It's Monday and that means a new Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge! This week it's all about Try to Resist. We are using Ranger products, we would love it if you have Ranger product, you'll use them for this challenge, if you don't have any, it's okay too! Let's try to resist!

There are so many resist techniques, you have products that have resistance areas, like Tim Holtz and Heidi Swapp. But you can also create your own resist. With embossing powder, or in my case Transparent Texture Paste. The Gloss version works best because it's smoother. I started with the Honeycomb stencil to create a resist for my background.

After the texture paste was completely dry I sprayed with Cracked Pistachio and Peacock Feathers Distress Spray Stain and added some water so that it began to drip. You see how the transparent texture resist the spray. Although some of the spray seeped underneath the paste, but I like that cool effect. The paper I used really soaks up the ink. With a baby wipe, I wiped the ink off the texture paste. I added another layer, this time with Black Soot and Number Jumble stencil and with a baby wiped off the ink from the texture paste.

Last weekend I did a workshop, that was a gift for my birthday, about carving your own stamps. I made simple designs I could use and didn't already had. They make their debut on this art journal spread, and they will be used on much more projects in the future, for sure!

You can see the whole process of the making of this art journal spread in the video below.
