12 tags of 2013 - May

Wow, I'm so happy that I won with the April tag of the 12 tags of 2013! I almost couldn't believe it when I read it! I'm still most definitely over the moon with joy! Thanks so much, Tim, for choosing my tag! But enough about the tag of last month. It's now time for the May tag of the 12 tags of 2013. Because Tim has made such a stunning tag yet again.  Full of beautiful bright colors. Here is my take on it.

The colors that Tim chose are a real challenge for me, so I used the same colors to break a bit out of my comfort zone. I still have got Paris on my mind. But Tim also has used Mona, so I think you can forgive me... I really like the effect of the rub-on resist. I have a bunch of old rub-ons, which I will certainly give this technique a try with.

Paris in the bag?

Hi everyone,

Yes, it's Monday and this time Simon Says Stamp and Show has an another fun challenge for you. You will be sent in the woods... Well of course not literally, but you are asked to do something wood related. Like using a wood grain stamp, cute wood creatures, use wooden embellies or alter a wooden box. Can't wait to see what you come up with.


You know how I love my wooden stars. I put them on almost anything, and you might think I've gone overboard with this one, well I don't blame you. Okay a little background info is necessary I think. I make my own bags for a few years now. Ever since I learn to sew. And my favorite bag was all worn.  There were big wholes in it. So I really, really needed a new one. The uniqueness of my bags is that it consists of a base bag, a removable cover and a removable strap. For the cover I had a nice theme... well I think you guessed it by now ... yup, Paris!

 

To make the cover I cut out a piece of natural canvas and collected all my favorites Tim Holtz stamps of Paris and I started to make pattern with these stamps. I stamped with waterproof ink, Archival Ink Jet Black, because I don't want it to become a big black mess when it gets a bit wet from the rain. When I was done stamping I made that piece of canvas into a removable cover. Here the wooden stars and the speech bubble came into play. I coated them with Glue n Seal, so the Label Letter stickers will stay in place, and that the rain doesn't affect the wood. To be sure that the wooden embellies will adhere properly I used Tacky Glue. It's such a great glue for these kinds of projects! Before I have die cut the letters 'Paris' with the WordPlay die I ironed on Steam-A-Seam 2 on the back of the black fabric. Steam-A-Seam 2 is double stick fusible web. I also did that with the Fleur de Lis. And I've also gave it a run through the vagabond with the matching embossing folder. It gives that little bit extra dimension.

Inkpad love

Hi everyone,

It's Monday again and Simon Says Stamp and Show has another nice new challenge for you. We ask you to use your favorite ink pad and let us know why it's your favorite. My favorite ink pad is Peacock Feathers Distress Ink. Because it's such a gorgeous color. That it's a Distress Ink, makes it even more my favorite. Distress Ink is just so versatile!


To show of the color very well, I only used Peacock Feathers Distress Ink the create the background with the blending tool. It's a bit plain and hasn't any depth in it, so I did the Spritz and Flick technique, so that beautiful water drops occur. To bring out the beautiful color I distressed the edges with Walnut Stain Distress Ink. I also stamped with Peacock Feathers. So you get from this single color very much depth.

 

I absolutely love the new die of Tim with the Eiffel Tower and Fleur de Lis. I also have the matching embossing folder. They go so well together. It would be even more fantastic if the new Paris stamps had also matched the die and the embossing folder! Well maybe next release :).

Paper padding

Hi everyone,

Yesterday I came back from my trip to Paris and I've had an amamzing time! So much fun adventures with the girls. This was the first time we had been on a trip together. But enough about Paris... It's another Monday and that means a new Simon Says Stamp and Show challenge. This time, we load up our 6x6 paper pads and get all paper paddy this week.



Do you also buy the lovely 6x6 paper pads and use just a few sheets of it for one single project and then forget all about them? Well I serieusly do. So this challenge is perfect for me, I finally can use some sheets of my hoarded paper pads! A while ago I made this amoire out of cardstock with my Silhouette Cameo and this pattern of SVGcuts.



Honestly, it was a bit boring. Perfect to cover up with beautiful patterns of Meadowlark 6x6 paper pad. In the beginning I'm always a bit hesitant to rip those beautiful sheets into pieces. But after a while I rip and tair like a crazy person. Well not all that crazy ... You know what I mean... With a lot Multi Medium Matte I layered all the pieces of paper on. It still looked a bit plain, it lacked some color. So out come the paints and inks. Well only two colors of paint the Pool Paint Dabber and I stamped with Mustard Seed Distress Paint. I love the new Remnants Rubs from Tim Holtz, they're really cool! That's the beauty of the rubs, they apply to sort of uneven surfaces.

So very inspirational

Hi everyone,

Simon Says Stamp and Show has such a cool challenge in store for us. This week it's 'Inspired by'! Well I'm inspired by a lot of artists, products and techniques. But I really like these two very talented ladies.  Donna Downey and Dina Wakley. Both ladies have an amazing blog packed with inspiration, which I love to visit to give my mojo a boost. They both inspire me just to new things and not to be affraid to go for it. I find their art journal styles and techniques very cool. And I love to watch Donna's Inspiration Wednesday video's.

Recently I purchased the medium Gelli Plate. Unfortunately the workshop Dina gave about it was sold out when she was here in the Netherlands serveral weeks ago. So I looked at lots of youtube videos and went to work. It's so much harder than I expected! Looking at those videos it seems really easy... After buying  more paint colors and after more attempts, I finally made something that made me happy! So that page went in my art journal, a great base to expand into an artjournal page. I collected all the products of Donna and Dina I own around me, and started playing. The stamps of Dina are really super! And I love the stencils of Donna! I used them with paint and with modeling paste.

Do more of what makes you happy!

Hi everyone,

Today I wanna share a card that I made in honor of my mother's upcoming birthday. With this card I'm joining Frilly and Funky where the challenge is to use time in one way or another, and alse with the renewed Our Creative Corner, where it is Anything Goes.

The background contains a lot of different layers. Started with the Distress Paints to create a basic background. Finally an opportunity to try the Metallic Distress Paints. Really love these paints, they are so versatile. Then I stamped with Picket Fence Distress Paint the Flourish stamp. After that I stamped with lots of different colors of ink and stamps. The sentiment I got at a stamping market which was a while ago. I have no idea what brand it is ... Of course I had to use the film ribbon againg, is really a new addiction of me... And if I wanna use clocks, then the Weathered Clock and the stamp of Life's possibilties can't be missed...
