Monochrome Halloween card with video tutorial

http://www.simonsaysstampblog.com/mondaychallenge/
Hi everyone,

It's Monday and that means a new Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge! This week it's all about "Monochrome".

A little more than a month and then it's Halloween. Too bad we don't celebrate it in the Netherlands, but that doesn't stop me from making Halloween cards... I like that darkness of it. I started to apply a piece of Collage Paper Halloween with Collage Medium. I immediately wrinkled it while it was still wet to create texture, but it could use a little more texture and for that I applied Grit-Paste around the edges. When it was dry I made it darker with Gunmetal paint.

To make it even darker I used Infusions Black Knight. This works very nicely with the Grit-Paste. Especially using Metallique wax on top of the texture makes the Grit-Paste look fabulous. I used the pluses of the Mixed Media 6 die set and gave them a metal look with Nuvo Mousses. These dry out very quickly in their packaging. I use them regularly. Don't know why this is happening ....

I first painted the Drip Drop Edged die set with Brused Pewter, but wanted to make it stand out even more. So I applied a layer of Black Soot over it. Then I went of it with an Embossing Dabber and Bonding Powder and Fab Foil. But the foil doesn't  work so well in all places. I don't know if it is the foil, because this was the first time I used this brand, or that it was because of all layers of paint and the royal applied Embossing Dabber. I'll experiment with it again another day. I cut the Happy Halloween from black vinyl with my Silhouette Cameo and adhered it on a transparent sheet, that I attached with the Tiny Attacher to the card. If you don't have a digital cutting machine but you do have a laser printer, you can print on the transparent sheet and achieve the same effect.

Creatures Great and Small art journal spread

Hi everyone,

Challenges that has something to do with nature are one my favorites. So I had lots of fun playing in my art journal for the "All Creatures Great and Small Challenge" at Frilly and Funkie.

I started with a background full of washi tape and used some Americana paints to start giving it some color. To create more depth in the colors I used mica pigment powders like Nuvo Shimmer Powder Green Parade and Perfect Pearls Perfect Gold and Blue Raspberry.

Halloween Bottles card with video tutorial

http://www.simonsaysstampblog.com/mondaychallenge/
Hi everyone,

It's Monday and that means a new Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge! This week theme is  "It's a Wrap".

When I think of packaging, I also think of bottles. And so close to Halloween I couldn't help myself thinking of Apothecary Bottles (thanks Frederique!). I gave them color with Distress Ink, Tumbled Glass and Antique Linen for the small bottle and Peeled Paint with Ground Espresso for the larger bottle. After applying Embossing Dabber I poured  UTEE over and heated it with a heat tool. To create the glossy effect this could also have done with Glossy Accents, but UTEE goes a lot faster and gives the same effect. And there are no air bubbles you have to worry about. Because the Embossing Dabber is a bit liquid the Distress Ink reacts to that, but that actually gives it an unexpectedly cool distressed effect.

Back to Nature art journal spread

Hi everyone,

I'm back with a new art journal spread made for a Vintage Journey where the challenge is "Back to Nature". That's my favorite theme, and had so much fun creating this spread.

I started with a double sheet of the old book that I used last time and applied with a old gift card 3 colors of Opal Magic Paint: Voilet-Green, Green-Gold and Rose-Gold. Such a fun effect. Then I applied with the Sunset Sunrise stencil some Texture Paste and went over it with the same Opal Paint colors when it was dry. This time with a Silicon Brush.

Stenciled card with video tutorial

http://www.simonsaysstampblog.com/mondaychallenge/
Hi everyone,

It's Monday and that means a new Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge! This week it's all about "Use More Than One Stencil".

I used 3 stencils for this card. I started with the Schoolhouse stencil and Distress Paint Black Soot. Over that I used Opal Magic Paint in Green-Gold and Violet-Gold. I applied this with an old gift card. Is my new favorite way to apply this paint because of the effect it gives. After the paint was dry, I used my second stencil and again with Distress Paint Black Soot. This time I quickly added some Bonding Powder and used GoPress Gray Foil. And the third and last stencil is the Bubble stencil that I used with Texture Paste.

On top of a surface that is painted, I like working with Infusions, and this time I tried a new color combination, green (Slime and Emerald Isle) and pink (Are You Cerise). Still don't know if I like this color combo ... Maybe I just have to get used to it because it's so different from what I normally use for color combos.
