12 tags of 2015 - May

Hi everyone,

It's time for another 12 tags of 2015, this time for the month of May! May is almost to an end. I have the tag ready for a while, but had no time to put it on my blog. I wanted to wait until tomorrow, but when I visited Tim's website, I saw only had 14 hours left... Oops! I really needed to make time to take the pictures and write this blog post.

This tag reminds me of the tag of last February. But then again with a different approach. Very cool! I don't have half the stuff Tim has used. But that shouldn't spoil the fun. I used  the letter stencil instead of the flourish stencil and laid back the stencil when the texture was dry to apply the Distress Ink. I used a vintage photo instead of a photo booth picture that I found on the internet a few months ago. The flowers I cut out with my Silhouette Cameo.

Thank you for stopping by! Love to see you next time!

Hugs,
Sandra

Thanks Foil Tag

Hi everyone,

A new Monday equals a new Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge! This week it's: Thank you! Maybe you need to make a Thank you card or gift tag, or maybe you're thankful for something. As long as it's about thanks you're good to go to join us!

I'm joining in the foil trend and I love it. I do not have the beautiful Minc machine, but fortunately there are other methods for using foil. I've been experimenting with different techniques and the background of this tag I made with a stamp, clear embossing powder and a laminator. The Minc is actually a laminator, which has the ability to adjust temperature and is also hotter than a regular laminator (in most cases, there are lots of different laminators out there). My laminator has no temperature control and just isn't hot enough for some techniques. Therefore, it works less "good", but I actually like the results in most cases better because of the lack of heat. I'm more of the distressed look, than the clean crisp look type of girl.

After the foil, I applied some color to the background. I like the color combination of blue with pink, I think it's beautiful. I made a layered half doily. The doily in the back is from waxpaper, which I use in some dies so that the die cut is easier to remove from the die. The upper white flower is from Prima. It is actually a trim. The "thanks" is an exclusive die from Simon Says Stamp, I cut it out of cork and outlined it with a black marker.

Funky xyz card

Hi everyone,

A new Monday brings a new Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge! As you know we love letter challenges, and this time we chose the last of the alphabet to spark your inspiration: X, Y, Z. Are your creative juices flowing yet?

For me it's birthday card season at the moment. In the month of May there are lots of birtdays of friends and family. And even a wedding is on the books. This card I made for my brother's 40th birthday. Mine 40th birthday is coming close too... Still a few more years to go!

For this card, I decided to use all three letters. I had just gotten the gorgeous Simon Says Stamp Dotted Alphabet and thought it would be a good idea to make a pattern with them for the background. Out of Solar White Neenah cardstock I cut the letters with two different alphabet dies: Wordplay and Lower Alphabet. Just gave it a try to seek where I wanted the letters, but I didn't glued them down yet. That happens at a later stage.

With the Teresa Collins Diagonal Stencil and Lemon Zest I have the background given some color, Yellow to be exact. Of course, some black with splatters of Black Marble and some random stamping what the Script stamp. The letters I gave a black edge with Black Soot Distress Paint like the card. Love the funky vibe.

The balloon I cut out with the Silhouette Cameo. I think it's awesome that you can trace pictures I found on the internet and cut them out in any size I want. I've also done that with these balloons. On top of the balloons I went over with the Wink of Stella Glitter Brush. Love that glittery effect.

Artful Flowers tag

Hi everyone,

It's a wonderful Monday and it's time for Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge! This week is about the Simon Says Stamp brand. Several years ago they began to design amazing products, and in the meantime they have built a whole empire with stamps, stencils, cutting templates, paper, inks and their great monthly kits. How are you gonna showcase those beautiful products?

I have collected many beautiful Simon Says Stamp products, but I have managed to limit it to two new stamp sets from the Hop to it collection: The Artful Flowers and Hand Lettered Encouragement.

The background I created using Distress Spray Stain Cracked Pistacio and Peacock fFathers. The Artful Flowers I first stamped in black and then with Versamark and White Embossing Powder to create the outlines. The flowers I gave some Wink of Stella Glitter for a little sparkle.

Abandoned butterfly card

Hi everyone,

It's Monday again and today Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge has an amazing challenge for you: "Don't abandon the coral!". Abandoned Coral is the second color from 2015 Tim Holtz has released. You don't need this specific ink pad, you can also use another coral-colored product or something else coral related.

As a collector of the Distress Ink pad colors, I also have this color. I mainly used this color for my card. The color in the pictures doesn't come close to the real color. I have tried to edit it with a photo program, but this is the best result I get. Sorry about that!

I started with Picket Fence Distress Paint and Flourish stencil to build up the background. I then applied with a Blending Tool the Abandoned Coral. But to give it more dimension, I did the Wrinkle Free Distress technique with just Abandoned Coral (yes, it's all about this color). For another layer I stamped with the numbers stamp of the Perspective stampset, and also in Coral.

The large Butterfly I stamped with Versamark and used Black Embossing powder on top of it, which I heated with an heattool. The coral background was too intense and the butterfly need to be more present. Therefore I took an empty water brush (to get as much pigment, and I have no good fine brush) and colored the butterfly in with White Linen Dylusions. Black embossing powder resists the Dylusions so you don't have to be that careful when coloring!
