Travel Maps project with video tutorial

http://www.simonsaysstampblog.com/mondaychallenge/

Hi everyone,

It's Monday and that means a new Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge! This week it's all about making a project with the colors Red, White and Blue. We are also showcasing Indigo Blu Products, these aren't manditory, but if you have them, we would love to see them in your project!

My lovely teammate Barbara Schiassi made this lovely graphic for us to use as inspiration.

The color combination of red, white and blue is a difficult combination for me. But I do like a challenge. This year, I'm going to Croatia on holiday and the flag of Croatia consists of these colors. So I'm using this challenge to make a cover for my travel maps book. I always make the necessary preparations, such as maps of the places that I want to go visit. We never actually rent a car, but always use public transportation if we need to. So in this book there is also a map with the bus routes.

First I started working with Distress Ink. Fired Brick and Candied Apple for the red, and Chipped Sapphire and Blueprint Sketch for the blue. The edges I made darker with Ground Espresso and framed it in with Pitch Black Paint Dabber. With the Stars stencil and Fired Brick, Chipped Sapphire I made some stars.

The globe (thanks Marzena!) I painted black and then applied Walnut Stain Distress Paint with my fingers, to create an aging effect so it looks like very old time worn metal. Between the Tiny Circles I had just enough room to stamp the Splattered Heart of Indigo Blu.

Love your little travel book, Sandra! I must say, you definitely met the color challenge! I like your idea of having a little book of maps you can just pop in your bag when you travel by whatever mode of transportation, better than a plastic bag like I've used in the past!

When everyone else reaches for white, I've noticed your propensity for black and it's no wonder--you are an expert at making a strong statement with bold color contrasts. It's an exciting look which no doubt mirrors your feelings about the upcoming vacation. Have fun!

I love how your art is so functional, too! When I was traveling by tube in London, I sure could've used something like this to keep my maps sorted out! Excellent work on something that's totally practical!
