It's Monday and that means a new Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge! This week our challenge is "Back to School".
It's time to go back to school!! But it's almost Halloween too. Let's combine the two to make my first Halloween card of the season. A back to Hogwarts card if you will, you know Harry Potter's magic school... I started embossing the background with the Wallpaper stamp and Black Embossing Powder. To give it some color (of course orange) I used Distress Oxides, Spiced Marmalade and Ripe Persimmon.
I've altered the Ornate Frame (thanks, Frederique!) into an old tarnished mirror. For the middle part I applied the Faux Tarnished Metal technique (source: Blog of Shelly Hickox). It had been a while since I had done that technique, and the effect surprises me every time. For the frame I applied Grit-Paste and applied a layer of Distress Paint Black Soot. Afterwards it gave a weathered metal effect with Metallique Wax Bronze Age.
I cut out the letters with a digital cutting machine. Here is a link to the free font I used, it's called Dyer. If you also have a digital cutting machine, you can go crazy with cutting of all types of fonts. Quick tip: mind that the letters aren't too thin. Solid bold fonts work the best.
