Pirate Hot Air Balloon Halloween card with video tutorial

Hi everyone,

It's Monday and that means a new Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge! This week it's all about "Use Your Favorite Stamp".

We are showcasing the latest STAMPtember® products and although you probably don’t have these supplies yet we would like you to use Simon’s Exclusive Products if you have them. This isn’t necessary to join in with the challenge but we would appreciate it.

For this STAMPtember release I got the Etched Laurel Leaves die and no stamps, so I used my favorite Halloween Stamp set from Tim Holtz, the Mini Halloween # 3 set. Since this set came out I have used it every year! My other favorite stamp is the Hot Air Balloon from the Remnant stamp set, but unfortunately Simon Says Stamp no longer has it in the assortment. But they have plenty of other nice Hot Air Balloon items.

I started with stamping the hot air balloon and stamped it again on masking paper to mask it off, but I should have stamped the skull of the Mini Halloween # 3 set first, to make it a pirate balloon. But now I stamped  it on a loose piece, colored it with Distress Reinkers Antique Linen and Pumice Stone, cut it out and adhered it with double sided tape. The skull is actually a bit too big for the balloon, but I don't have a smaller stamp, and I love it anyway. I masked the balloon and built the background colors with Distress Ink Rusty Hinge, Persimmon and Distress Oxide Black Soot. And later also with Nuvo Shimmer Powder Storm Cloud.

On top of the STAMPtember Etched Laurel Leaves I applied texture with Grit-Paste and painted it black with Distress Paint Black Soot and gave it a metallic shine with Bronze Age and Firebird Metallique wax. On top I placed a Creepy Eye, I distressed it a bit with Alcohol Ink Mushroom.

I also did the same with my balloon as I love the skull balloon. I bought my balloon from New Jersey as I know the best Balloon Delivery service for the balloon. And your idea of the pirate balloon is awesome.

Want a guaranteed Insta-worthy moment at your event? Create a DIY balloon backdrop! Drape a fishing line across a wall and attach a variety of balloons using colorful curling ribbon. Mix and match sizes, textures, and even incorporate some mylar balloons for an extra dose of pizzazz. This simple yet impactful backdrop is perfect for photo booths, dessert tables, or the guest book signing area.
