Dare to be artsy

Hi everyone,

Simon Says Challenge Monday Blog has an exciting and fun challenge for you this week, it's all about the artsy stamp! Whether you use a sketched looking stamp, a grungy texture stamp or use any other form of artsy stamps, just let your artistic juices flow.

The artsy stamps I used are the amazing Scribbly Birds from Dina Wakley! To complement them and let these cuties shine on my tag, I've played a lot with stencils and lots of contrasting colors.
The first layer is made with the Distress Marker Spritzer, Dusty Concord and Dot Fade stencil, subtle in the background.

Well that got my creative juices flowing and went to work with Dylusion Sprays like Lemon Zest in combination with Mini Chevron and Fresh Lime with Bubble. It was not exciting enough, I needed a bold contracting color, Funky Fuchsia and exclusive Simon Says Stamp Leaves stencil was perfect to pull it all together.

12 tags of 2014 - May

Hi everyone,

Tim has created for the 12 tags of 2014 - May yet again a stunning tag! And couldn't wait to sit down and make one like it too. I'm still so happy and honored that he has chosen my tag last month as one of the 12 winners. It was so funny because when I read it I was at work and I spontaneously jumped out of my chair and did a happy dance. You should have seen my colleagues' faces! The thought I went mad!
This tag was a bit of a challenge and I likethat! Luckily I managed to lay my hands on the great Shadowpresses! Don't you just love them? I think they are really cool, and they give a very nice effect.

It was fun to rummage through my stash of embellishments. I'm a bit of a hoarder and sometimes I have a hard time using some stuff. So this was a great exercise to let go.

Also came across one of my old favorite stamps. Had so much fun developing my stamp and cut method with that stamp. Stamping, scanning, tracing, create an outline, cutting and stamping. I came across a few of those blanc die cuts. Perfect for this tag.

Thank you for stopping by! Love to see you next time!

Botanical inspiration

Hi everyone,

Finally, the weather is getting as you would expect being Spring here in the Netherlands, and the theme of Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge is just perfect to celebrate it: Botanical Bliss. DT member Suzanne is in the mood for flowers and other botanical beauty! Hope you are too and will join in!

For this challenge, I really went out of my comfort zone. I don't really use pastel colors often and I rarely make layouts and certainly not with a photo of myself. All the more fun to try it and go for it.

First, I applied a layer of gesso on the pages. Then I the Gelatos came into play to create a background together with water and a baby wipe. For more dimension I used Lindy's Stamp Gang Spray and a stencil. Love the shimmer that those sprays give!

With Embossing Paste and the exclusive Simon Says Stamp Leaves Stencil I added the leaves. After the paste was completely dry I colored them in with Gelatos that I mixed with water and applied it with a brush. To make the coloring easier, I laid the stencil back before I started coloring.

CC3C #2

Hi everyone,

It's time for a new Compendium of Curiosities Challenge. It's challenge #2 and we are asked to look at page 56 where it's about Distress Glitter. This time the challenge is sponsored by the Funkie Junkie Boutique.

I only have the Rocky Candy Distress Glitter and I can make it any color with alcohol inks. The shimmer is a little less, but I don't mind that, I think it's pretty too.

The background is made with Tumbled Glass Distress Stain and edges with Frayed Burlap and Walnut Stain Distress Ink. The remember is stamped with the Shadow Press Debossing Folder and Archival Jet Black Ink. It was a little too light and traced it over with a Pitt marker.

Thank you for stopping by! Love to see you next time!

Sandra

M is for Masculine

Hi everyone,

The month of May is in full swing, but sadly not so nice weather for the time of the year here in Holland. But fortunately Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge Blog has another fun new challenge the keep me busy waiting for better weahter to come. Our DT leader's birthday is this week and made it "M is for...". What inspires you when you think of the letter M ?

Thinking of the letter M, I was inspired to make a masculine card. My colleague is still home recovering after his surgery. To let him know we're thinking about him, I've made this large card where all colleagues could write something on.

For me making a masculine card is a challenge. I find that quite difficult. I started with kraft cardstock as a base and with various Distress Inks I went to work to create a background. Because the base is kraft the results are much darker and less bright. Just what I needed.

I find the exclusive Sketched Alphabet stamp set from Simon Says Stamp absolutely amazing! And completed the sentiment with Word Play and Label Letters. The Stars were added later on with a stencil and black colored Embossing Paste, so I had to be careful that I didn't go over the text.

Tool tag

Hi everyone,

Today is a super cool date, May 5th (here in the Netherlands it's Liberation Day, and that means a day off). Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge blog has a very fitting challenge especially for this date: a challenge of 5. Use 5 products to make your project OR use five of the same products in your project.

This tag I made for my colleague who recently has had surgery. I have used 5 of my most favorite and frequently used tools. The first tool is the Blending Tool. I blended Spiced Marmalade and Ripe Persimmon to make the background. This technique is one of my favorite ways to create backgrounds.

The second and third tool I used to give the background some more depth and interes and used them together. A stencil (Burlap) with the new Distress Spritzer. The spritzer gives such a cool and subtle effect.

The fourth tool is a Palette Knife. Dina's is amazing and not expensive at all. I used it with a different stencil(Number Jumble) and black colored Embossing Paste.

The final and absolute favorite is the stamp ! I can not live without stamps ! I have of course my all time favorite use Script Kaiser Craft. But the Retro Circles by Tim Holtz
