12 tags of 2016 - March

Hi everyone,

Think I need to accept the fact that I'm gonna be late with my Tim tags. I think I work better when I'm getting closer to the deadlines. What a super combo of technique Tim has chosen for the 12 tags of March 2016. It's the technique of November 2014 and August 2015.

I don't have a lot of movers and shapers, and I started with the Mini Gears. I had the "November technique" done. Then began the "August technique". In the beginning I had my doubts whether it would work out, I didn't like it. But when I added lots of more details with a black aquarelle pencil and gold foil, I loved it so much I didn't wanted to cover any part of it up. Then I discovered that the gears were so mini that I saw almost nothing of my pretty layer underneath...

So I looked at my movers and shapers again and saw the cicles, so I used them and now I can see more of my pretty background!

I can see clearly now card with video tutorial

http://www.simonsaysstampblog.com/mondaychallenge/

Hi everyone,

It's Monday and that means a new Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge! This week it's We Can See Clearly Now. Use acetate, vellum, clear embossing powder or anything you can think of that is a little transparent.

What a great theme is this, I wanted to work with heat resistance acetate for a while now. This theme is perfect for that. Actually, I wanted to use it with my laser printer and work with Foil. But I don't know how well the acetate can takethe heat... And I don't wanna ruin my printer over it. Okay, that were my crazy thoughts... Let's go on with the actual project I made.

I'm so in love the Opal Magic Alchemy paint from Prima Marketing. Since I also wanted to work with the Distress crayons I used it as a base. This paint is very smooth, and doesn't have much bite as other paint. But by applying several layers I finally got the result I wanted.
After I die cut the butterflies, I gave them some color with Distress Crayons. The same applies for acetate, it doesn't stay so well when you want to rub it or if you add some water. But with some patience and adding more layers, you can build up some color.

Another tip if you try acetate with wet glue, sand the back first here with some sandpaper, otherwise it comes right off ... I speak from experience!
For the whole proces of making this card, see the video below.

Yummy Art Journal Spread with video tutorial

http://www.simonsaysstampblog.com/mondaychallenge/

Hi everyone,

It's Monday and that means a new Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge! This week it's all about Food and/or Drinks. Are you addicted to coffee or enjoy a nice cup of tea, or maybe you're inspired by food and/or drinks in another way, please share your creation with us!

Last week, I received my shopping spree and I couldn't wait to go play with everything I picked out, and what better than to try them all is by playing around in an art journal. I had some trouble with the theme of this week. But I had found some liquor and milk labels in the Ephemera Melange from Prima Marketing and and made them into my starting point. I really love the Silicone Brush Media Prima Marketing. It's so easy to clean. Then when I started with Distress Crayons, coincidentally all the colors I've used were named after food, I wasn't happy with the look. Quickly I applied another layer of Gesso on top of it and had to try something new. My new inspiration was to use food named products.

Talking about something new, I've applied a layer of Prima Marketing Art Alchemy Magic Blue Opal - Gold paint on top of it all. Wow! That is some cool stuff! It has a great shimmer, but the magic is that the color of the background makes what color it becomes! Like the Blue-Gold, this is baby blue on light surfaces and gold on dark surfaces. How amazing is that?! Love it!

After I'd applied this paint, I was a lot happier and that the Distress Crayons were still subtle underneath. That gave it such a beautiful effect. Now it was time for contrast, and another product I wanted to use from my shopping spree was the Industrial stencil. I used the last of the Embossing Paste which I've colored with Black Soot.

I also have many layers applied with stamps, ink, paint, washi tape and Twisted Citron Distress Crayon. For some reason it looks so much brighter in the photo and video than in real life. In real life Opal Magic is much more baby blue. I'm not sure how to capture it on video and photos properly.

For all the steps I made to create this yummy art journal spread, see the video below.

Lucky stars tag with video tutorial

http://www.simonsaysstampblog.com/mondaychallenge/

Hi everyone,

It's Monday and that means a new Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge! This week it's all about Lucky Stars. It's almost St. Patricks Day, so let's add some luck to our projects, of maybe only some stars. Or combine the two like I did in my tag.

When I think of St. Patrick's Day, I think of dark green, shamrock, Irish holiday and dwarves with pots full of gold. I've kept it with the dark green and clover for my tag. I wanted to make a light base so I applied a few layers of Cracked Pistachio. With the Stars stencil and the Lucky Clover (Lucky Stars...) Distress Ink I applied the darker layer.

I placed the Stars stencil back again and with Heirloom Gold Perfect Pearls Mist I gave the stars a golden shimmer, that can translate for the put with gold and the golden shine of the stars. With Words Remnant Rubs I added some text.

The clover I cut with my Silhouette Cameo. I picked out an image from the Internet, traced in the software and cut in 3 different sizes. With racked  Pistachio Paint Distress I have them painted green, and with the Big Brush Artist Pen May Green I gave some depth. Eventually, with the black aquarelle pencil I added more depth and shading.
See for the whole process the video below.

Darkroom Door Buttons card with video tutorial

http://www.simonsaysstampblog.com/mondaychallenge/

Hi everyone,

It's Monday and that means a new Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge! This week it's all about making your own background. We're using Darkroom Door products, if you have them we'd love to see them used in your project, if not, that's okay too. We're looking forward to see your gorgeous background projects.

For this challenge I made a background with the Buttons stamp from Darkroom Door. When I saw the stamp, I thought it was so awesome! It's a background stamp and I wanted to use it for background. I stamped with Archival Ink Jet Black, and it's quite a busy and bold background, but also very cool.

With Prima Marketing Watercolor pencils I colored a few of the buttons. The pencils are very subtle and that's exactly what I wanted, because the stamp was already intense enough. For some reason it seemed as if the ink reacted with water, but it shouldn't because it's a waterproof ink. Probably the ink wasn't completely dry yet.

I'm now in a phase where I use black aquarelle pencil everywhere to apply shadow effects, and with a little White Gelly Roll Pen as accents. Because the theme, I used my sewing machine and sew around the edges. Love that look, but it's such a hassle to get out the machine that I hardly do it.

See below for the video of the entire process. Unfortunately, I occasionally was out of frame. Learning moments...
